Well that was a let down. I'm glad Jen won because I didn't like Matt and think he skated through on his carpentry skills (but lack of design skills). Nevertheless, it was a boring show for the most part and I'm glad I only half paid attention. And I swear to God that if Matt yelped like an idiot one more time into a microphone and raised his hands I was going to come across the TV at him like a spider monkey.
One thing CVD did bring to my attention, and I later confirmed via David Dust, was the fact that Mikey V wasn't there. Considering the fact that there was a minor scandal after he was voted off about potential engagement in gay porn. Apparently he's been suspended by his police department (yes, he's a police officer). Then HGTV allegedly (and I say this only because I don't know for sure, but I sure believe it) uninvited him from the finale.
Um...(1) at least Clive could have said something about it, (2) what's the big deal--gay porn? Like David Bromstad doesn't have a sex tape out there, (3) he competed in the show like everyone else and has the same right to be there, (4) he was the best worker there and had good design sense--he and Trish could have had a brilliant show. (She should have won this thing anyhow. I think she didn't because Matt had one of those sob stories about his parents and Jen was...well, I don't know.)
Not to mention that the Summer Showdown thing that they did afterwards was only mildly entertaining. Hopefully next week's will be better. Cynthia Rowley is just a bit to tacky for my taste and Vern Yip, though I can't stand him, did the better job...though it was boring. If any of the design start contestants had come up with that they'd be having a field day.
In any event, a shaming is called for here.
*ehem*
Shame on you, HGTV.

Dear Lord
As if the Catholic church had nothing more pressing to do, they have created some new sins. Just what this world needs. I mean, I'm all about regulation but I guess I'm anti-regulation in the religious realm. Can't we focus on getting people to follow the Golden Rule and the basic Ten Commandments before we start enforcing other rules. And to be honest, some of these just sound too trendy for my tastes.
The Vatican opposes stem cell research that involves destruction of embryos and has warned against the prospect of human cloning. In the eyes of the Catholic church, was this ever not a sin? Were they ever turning a blind eye towards it? Was an official denouncement necessary.
Girotti, in an interview headlined "New Forms of Social Sin," also listed "ecological" offences as modern evils. It's trendy being Green.
Why can't we focus on poverty and hunger and AIDS and war and all of those things before making NEW sins for people to commit? Aren't the ones we have enough?

How much wood...
Folks in Bakersfield, CA are going to kill a beaver because he was doing his job as a beaver. Real nice, Bakersfield.
The beaver, let's call him Bill the Beaver, is going to be put to death for gnawing down trees. What is a beaver supposed to do? Gnaw down trees.
What's next? A dog being put down for wagging his tail and knocking over someone's drink?
KNOCK IT OFF, BAKERSFIELD.

COME ON ALREADY
You've already thrown her in jail and sentenced her to be deported. COME ON.
Now they want to kill her.
I ask you--is this something that is very true to the heart of the Islamic faith? Killing?
Something tells me (and Megg as well) that this is not what Mohamed would want.

Lines Have Gotta Be Drawn
A British teacher who teaches in Sudan was sentenced to 15 days in jail and deportation today.
Why? You ask.
Because she allowed her students to name the class teddy bear Mohammed.
I'm not even kidding. Now I'm all for religious tolerance and all, but I really don't get this. The reason she was convicted was because they said she was inciting religious hatred.
Um...yeah. Because teddy bears are so offensive. Come on. Cut the games. Honestly.
I'm going to get me a teddy bear and name him Jesus. Why? Because I can in my religion.
