Sad Song, Same Scene

Two Detroit teams met two Cleveland teams this weekend. One team racked up a couple of wins. The other, sadly, signaled the end of an era.

For those of you that don't know your Honor, team sports in Detroit are a big deal. They can revitalize a city, reinvigorate an ailing public and generally cause euphoria. But on days like Saturday, sometimes the sound of a defeat signals much more.

I won't bore you with my uninformed thoughts, but I'll leave you with this piece from Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press regarding the end of the Piston's era.

And LeBron, if you're reading (which I seriously doubt you are), remember this: You had to go through Detroit to get there and they were a team, not just a superstar and his victory. Success tastes sweeter when there's more than one flavor.

Do you ever wonder what would have happened had Detroit gotten Carmelo instead of Darko? Is anybody talking about that these days in Detroit? It seems weird to reflect back on how that would have changed things.

Oddly, I don't think anyone has brought that up. I think the coaching position is really the key. And obviously Flip doesn't work well with this team as it is...or as it was. I'm sure it won't be that way for long. But there are tons of stories the past couple of days that his job is safe. How it is safe, I don't know. Anyone who can't get the job done with a team of great players who are great friends is not worth keeping in my book.

I completely agree with you. They need to keep the team in tact and get a new coach, but I don't think Dumars feels that way. I also agree it is hard to be beat by one player when you have a team of 5 guys who all play together. The CAVS went through that with Jordan and it stunk. No offense but my co-workers and I were talking about how Billups would look in a CAVS jersey.

I'd cry for days if Chauncey left--but I think it's a real possibility. And it's exactly why I think Saunders should go.

It nearly killed me when Ben went.
