SG on TV: Last Season Picks From "Lost"

In light of the fact that TV sucks lately, I'm going to bring you a steady dose of some of the best scenes from television last "season". (I use the term lightly as seasons vary from cable to network.)

The first in this series is my favorite scenes from Lost this past season. Both are from the episode "Something Nice Back Home."

The first one is where Jack wakes up and we learn (*gasp*) that he's living with Kate and Aaron.

The second one, is where Kate reassures Jack that he is good with Aaron and Jack asks her to marry him.

It's too bad the episode had to end with them going their separate ways. It was just a tease for us "Jate" fans. I demand retribution!

Now I have to wait patiently until January for more answers. Where's the Island? Are Sawyer and Juliet the next big thing? What did that redhead mean that she was from the Island? What will happen to Desmond and Penny? Was Aaron meant to go back as well? What's Claire's glitch?

Eh...dog days of summer, indeed!

SG on TV: Californication

I am a huge David Duchovony fan. I've watched all of his movies whether good (Kalifornia) or bad (Playing By Heart). I've enjoyed his guest stints on television (Sex in the City). But nothing seemed to be able to capture the character of Fox Mulder I came to know and love in the X-Files.

After the movie came out, I've been in a weird X-Files rut. I've been stalking old X-Philes fan sites and even reading some (gasp) fan fiction (I'm sorry, Lord). Part of it was my love of X-Files. Part of it was my love of David.

So I decided it was time to put my On Demand to use and catch up on David's new project, Californication, before the new season started. I watched the pilot a long time ago and enjoyed it, but never stayed in touch.

Let me tell you--I have a new favorite character. Hank Moody.

I have been hooked on the show for a week now, finishing the first season wherever I could find time. Duchovony plays Hank Moody, a writer going through a mid-life crisis who is self-loathing, hilariously sarcastic and yet with a beautiful person lurking at the core. Duchovony slips into the role like a lady of the night slipping into something lycra spandex. His relationship with his ex and his relationship with his daughter are always key, notwithstanding his descent into the abyss of alcohol and drugs. Hell, the show had me wanting a Camel Light like I haven't wanted one in years. Duchovony makes down and out look like a paradise that you want to join but can't quite come to grips with the costs associated.

And although he had a fairy tale ending that I won't give away here, I watched the previews for the second season and I'm happy to say that Hank, quite like me, has trouble adapting to fairy tale endings.

With all the sarcastic banter and one liners, this show is good as a distraction or an obsession. I'll take both.

SG on TV: Design Star Finale Bores

Well that was a let down. I'm glad Jen won because I didn't like Matt and think he skated through on his carpentry skills (but lack of design skills). Nevertheless, it was a boring show for the most part and I'm glad I only half paid attention. And I swear to God that if Matt yelped like an idiot one more time into a microphone and raised his hands I was going to come across the TV at him like a spider monkey.

One thing CVD did bring to my attention, and I later confirmed via David Dust, was the fact that Mikey V wasn't there. Considering the fact that there was a minor scandal after he was voted off about potential engagement in gay porn. Apparently he's been suspended by his police department (yes, he's a police officer). Then HGTV allegedly (and I say this only because I don't know for sure, but I sure believe it) uninvited him from the finale.

Um...(1) at least Clive could have said something about it, (2) what's the big deal--gay porn? Like David Bromstad doesn't have a sex tape out there, (3) he competed in the show like everyone else and has the same right to be there, (4) he was the best worker there and had good design sense--he and Trish could have had a brilliant show. (She should have won this thing anyhow. I think she didn't because Matt had one of those sob stories about his parents and Jen was...well, I don't know.)

Not to mention that the Summer Showdown thing that they did afterwards was only mildly entertaining. Hopefully next week's will be better. Cynthia Rowley is just a bit to tacky for my taste and Vern Yip, though I can't stand him, did the better job...though it was boring. If any of the design start contestants had come up with that they'd be having a field day.

In any event, a shaming is called for here.

*ehem*

Shame on you, HGTV.
